Introducing Built by Lume: A New Division of Lume Creative for the Trades

Studio updates - a new trades division of lume creative

We've had something in the works for a while and we're finally ready to talk about it. Built by Lume is a brand new division of Lume Creative made specifically for construction companies, contractors, builders and skilled trades.

It's still the two of us behind it. It just has its own name, its own website, and a way of working that makes more sense for people who spend their days on a job site.

Who Built by Lume is for

Mostly established trades businesses: builders, contractors, engineering firms and specialty trades who've been at it for years.

We'd sit down with an owner who's built something really impressive over 20-plus years, with a full crew and projects all over the region, and their website would still introduce them as a small family business. The logo was usually something a friend made when they first started out, and it's been on every truck since.

Honestly, it makes sense. They've been busy building everything else, and marketing keeps getting bumped to next month. We totally get it.

We're also working with newer trades businesses who want to look professional from the start without spending a fortune. That's what our Launch Kits are for.

What we're doing

Pretty much what Lume has always done, shaped around the trades: custom websites, branding, Launch Kits, marketing collateral, and project photography and drone content.

The photo and drone side has been a fun one. A lot of trades companies have years of great work behind them and very few good photos of any of it.

The biggest difference is how we run the process. Owners in this space don't have time for long questionnaires or meetings about brand feelings, so we keep it practical. We ask for what we need up front and send things over for approval when it suits your schedule.

Why we made it its own thing

Honestly, this grew out of our client list. Trades businesses have been with us since the very beginning. SBM was one of our first clients, and since then companies like Cobble Design, J-AAR, Coldstream Concrete and Blue-Con Construction have trusted us with their branding, websites and marketing materials. Word got around from there, and if you scroll through our work, you'll see a lot of trades in there.

We really enjoy working with them. They're direct, they know what good work looks like, and they don't need convincing that their online presence matters. They just need someone to take it off their plate.

We could have added a trades page to the Lume website and left it there. But the way we talk to a general contractor is pretty different from how we talk to most of our Lume clients, and we wanted a space that speaks to them directly.

Joining the London Home Builders' Association pushed us to make it official.

What this means for Lume

If you're a current Lume client, nothing changes. Lume is still here for service-based businesses across Canada, and we're still the same two people answering your emails. Built is where our trades work lives now.

Come see what we've been building

If you run a construction or trades business, or you know someone whose website is overdue for some attention, come take a look around. We'd love to hear from you.
